LINNIK Vladimir Pavlovich (1889-1984, Leningrad), physicist, Member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1939), Hero of Socialist Labor (1969). Graduated from the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of the University of Kiev. In Leningrad, to which he came in 1926, he worked at the State Institute of Optics at 12 Birzhevaya Line (memorial plaque installed), as a professor at the State Leningrad University (1933-41), and at the Pulkovo Observatory (1946-68). Linnik was the founder of modern optical technology in Russia. His main work consists of optical and optoelectronic methods of high-precision measuring and monitoring. From 1939 to 1946, he was deputy of the Leningrad City Soviet. Linnik was awarded the Stalin Prize (1946, 1950). From 1952 on, he lived at 1/2 Leytenanta Schmidta Embankment. Buried at the Komarovskoe Cemetery.
