It was housed in the former palace of Emperor Peter II, at 11 Universitetskaya Embankment. The institute accepted graduates of the gymnasia and philosophical classes of theological seminaries. The education lasted for four years. Until 1904, the institute remained a boarding school fully financed from the state. The certificate upon graduating from the institute was equivalent to a University diploma. In 1918, the Historical-Philological Institute was reorganised as the Pedagogical Institute at the First Petrograd University. References: Иванов А. Е.
