FINLYANDSKY RAILWAY STATION (5 Lenina Square), was built in 1870 by architect P.S. Kupinsky. It was a single-story building with a 2-storied pavilion. The side facade with the pavilion for the members of the Imperial Family was accessed via the newly laid Finsky Lane. The interiors were decorated according to the project of Swedish architect V. Vestling and P.E.S. Dagenaer. During the reconstruction in the late 1950s the central pediment of the old Finlyandsky Railway Station was incorporated as one of the parts of the new building. The new Finlyandsky Railway Station was put in operation on June 4, 1960 (architects P.A. Ashastin, N.V. Baranov, Y.N. Lukin, engineer I.A. Rybin). A laconic horizontal landscape mode silhouette is emphasized by a rectangular clock tower with a spire. The facade surface is divided into 17 vertical glass apertures. They are crowned with sculpture reliefs depicting Revolutionary events of 1917. A reinforced concrete casing covers the ticket hall. The Government of Finland presented Russia steam locomotive #293, which brought V.I. Lenin to Russia in October 1917. It was installed in a glass pavilion on a platform of Finlyandsky Railway Station. The first of 36 memorial mileposts installed in 1973 along the Road of Life railway line (architect M.N. Meysel) is placed nearby. During the Siege, Finlyandsky Railway Station was the only operating railway station in the city. On 7 February 1943, the first train with food arrived here from the mainland. Finlyandsky Railway Station services destinations to the north and northeast of St. Petersburg. There is an entrance hall of Ploschad Lenina Metro station in the left wing of the railway station. In 2002, Finlyandsky Railway Station underwent comprehensive restoration.
