RYBALCHENKO Stepan Dmitrievich (1903-1986), Soviet military commander, Colonel General of the Air Force (1944). From 1918 served in the Red Army, participated in the Civil War. Graduated from Frunze Military Academy (1936), Higher Academic Courses of the Voroshilov Higher Military Academy (1951). In the period of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-45 was Chief of Operation Control Staff of the North Front Air Force (1941), Chief of Operation Control Staff of the Leningrad Front Air Force (August 1941 - September 1942), Air Force Commander of the Leningrad Front (February - November 1942). From September 1942 through the end of war commanded the 13th Air Army, which took part in the breaking (1943) and lifting (1944) of the Leningrad blockade. From 1946, was appointed to a number of command positions in the Air Force. In December 1963 was transferred to the reserve.
