Right Bank of the Neva River

RIGHT BANK OF THE NEVA RIVER, a general name of a vast territory on the right bank of the Neva River southwards from the Soyedinitelnaya railway line and the Okhta - Zanevsky Post stretch. It encompasses such localities as Vesely Poselok, Sosnovka, Utkina Zavod and Rusanovka. In 1820, an abbey was built on the left Neva River Bank (14 Oktyabrskaya Embankment) in 1848 complemented by a cemetery. In the 19th century numerous industrial enterprises were constructed along the Neva River Bank (including the most famous ones such as Vargunins Paper Factory, Thornton Cloth Manufactury, Peter Belyaev Brick Plant, ultramarine works and a copper refinery). In the 1920s-30s all the enterprises were enlarged and reconstructed, in addition Krasny Oktyabr Electric Power Station and Nevsky Chemical Industrial Complex were built. In 1936, Volodarsky Bridge over the Neva River was put in operation. Today the territory along Oktyabrskaya Embankment Soyedinitelnaya railway line is dominated by industrial installations and that running along Narodnaya Street is built up with typical five-storey residential buildings of the 1960s, northwards from Novoselov Street stretches a large residential area with buildings designed and constructed in the 1970s-90s. Oktyabrskaya Embankment, Narodnaya Street running into the Murmansky Highway, Dalnevostochny Avenue, Bolshevikov Avenue, Kollontay Street are the major thoroughfares. The area is served by Prospekt Bolshevikov and Ulitsa Dybenko metro stations. The Ice Palace, Pravoberezhny Market, Alexandrovskaya Hospital, Hospital of War Veterans are also situates on the right Neva River Bank.
