FROM THE AVANT-GARDE TO TODAY, an international art festival held annually each spring since 1991, organised by Saint Petersburg City Hall Committee of Culture, the Mariinsky Theatre, D. D. Shostakovich Philharmonic, the Music and Modernity fund. The festival sees as its goal the union of musical and visual events. It hosts concerts by Russian and foreign performers at the Mariinsky Theatre, at the Big and Small Philharmonic Halls, at the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory, at the Composers House, at the Chaliapin Memorial Apartment, and other venues. Its program also includes art exhibitions at the Manege Central Exhibition Hall (1993, 1994), the Big Hall of the Composers House (from 1996), and a number of group and personal exhibitions at museums, galleries and concert halls. From 2002 the festival also organises the Graphic Biennale.
