KRONSHPITS (14a and 16 Shkipersky Channel), architectural monuments of the Petrine Baroque. Two small guard pavilions with lanterns ("beacon lights") and spires (flagpoles) were constructed about 1722 (architect D. Trezzini) from logs, planked with boards, on the extremities, marking the entrance to the channel of Galernaya (Galley) Harbour. In 1754, Kronshpits was reconstructed in stone (architect M.A. Bashmakov), with the original form preserved. Single-storied square towers with high winding roofs and flat rusticated posts on the corners of the facade are the only remaining utilitarian constructions of the 18th century in Galernaya harbour.
