Categories / Architecture/Bridges

GUTUEVSKY BRIDGE (formerly Seldyanoy), across the Ekateringofka River parallel to Dvinskaya Street, joining Obvodny Canal with the former Seldyany Brawl on Gutuevsky Island (hence both names). From the middle of the 1820s, a pontoon bridge was built here, in the second half of the 1830s a wooden seven span nogging-framed bridge with two opening wings and piers looking like cast iron columns was built (engineers A.D. Gotman, A.I. Malte), in 1949 the wooden abutments were replaced with metal. In 1977-79, a new bridge was built (engineers A.S. Evdonin, I.P. Ladyshkin, architect Y.P. Sinitsa) - a three span bridge, with unbroken reinforced concrete beam decking with a curvilinear shape for the lower girdle; the reinforced concrete abutments were faced with granite. Length: 95.7 metres, width: 27,6 metres.
