SOCIOLOGY OF THE RUSSIAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCES, INSTITUTE OF, located at 25/14 Seventh Krasnoarmeiskaya Street. It was established in 1989 as the Leningrad Branch of the Institute of Sociology, based on the Department of Sociology of the Institute of Social and Economic Problems of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. The institute became independent and received its present-day name in 2002. It carries out research in the sphere of family groups, social and cultural changes and differentiation within the Russian population, sociology of power and environmental authorities, sociology of health, ethnic sociology, sociology of the city, history of Russian sociology etc. Outstanding professionals Y. I. Gilinsky, S. I. Golod (director since 1996) and I. A. Golosenko et al. are among research assistants of the institute. The Institute of Sociology publishes Zhurnal Sotsiologii i Sotsialnoy Antropologii together with the Faculty of Sociology of St. Petersburg State University since 1998. It also publishes the series Trudy.
