ACADEMICIAN PAVLOV MEMORIAL MUSEUMS. 1) The Memorial Study and Library of Academician I. P. Pavlov was established in 1937. It is housed in the Department of Physiology of the Institute of Experimental Medicine (12 Akademika Pavlova Street) where the scientist worked from 1890 (the memorial plaque). The modest study is decorated by the author's copy of the portrait of Pavlov by artist M. V. Nesterov. A death-mask and moulds of Pavlov's hands (sculptor M. G. Manizer) are also on display. The laboratory where Pavlov developed his conditioned reflex theory is housed in the so called Tower of Silence - a building with a complicated system of acoustic insulation necessary for the experiments. The study lab is a part of the exhibition of the Museum of History at the Institute of Experimental Medicine of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences. 2) Pavlov Memorial Apartment Museum was opened in 1949 in the House of Academicians (7 Seventh Line of Vasilievsky Island, No. 11) put at his disposal in 1918 (memorial plaque). The museum includes a study, a living room and a dining room (the interior decor has been preserved). There is an exhibition dedicated to the life and work of the scientist in the hall. Pavlov’s collection of pieces of Russian art is used for decoration of the museum. The Museum Apartment is a part of Pavlov Institute of Physiology of the Russian Academy of Sciences. There is a memorial section dedicated to the scientist in the branch of the Institute in the village of Koltushi in Vsevolozhsky District.
