SAZONOV Nikolay Fedorovich (1843, St. Petersburg - 1902, the same place), actor. He started appearing on stage in the country under the name of Shuvalov. After graduating from the Theatre College in 1863, he joined the company of the Alexandrinsky Theatre. He first played in vaudevilles and operettas including Paris and Pichillo in J. Offenbach's Beautiful Helen and Perichole, Pitou in C. Lecoc's Daughter of Madame Angot, etc. He was a splendid actor remarkable for his elegance, musical talent, and close attention to details. He valued farce in operettas and tended to caricature his comic characters. In the 1870s-80s, he mainly appeared as a lover or simpleton in everyday life dramas. He performed 25 parts in A. N. Ostrovsky's plays including Murzavetsky in Wolves and Sheep, Dergachev in Last Victim, Vozhevatov in Dowerless Bride, Borodkin in Don't Put Yourself In Another Man's Sledge, Khlynov in Hot Heart, and Andrey Belugin in Belugin's Marriage by Ostrovsky and N.Y. Solovyev. He also performed many parts in V. A. Krylov's popular plays. He later played the role of the middle-aged philosopher in comedies, of which Tarelkin in A. V. Sukhovo-Kobylin's Case in 1882 was the best. He appeared in St. Petersburg's clubs too. He was the director of the People's House in 1900-02 and a teacher at the Drama Courses of the Theatre School in 1888-91. He was buried in Nikolskoe Cemetery and reburied at Necropolis of Artists with a new gravestone laid in 1936.
