TRAUBERG Leonid Zakharovich (1902-1990), film director, script writer, teacher, Honoured Art Worker of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (1967), People’s Artist of the USSR (1987). Studied at the Comic Opera Studio in Petrograd. Collaborated with G. M. Kozintsev to found the Factory of Eccentric Actors in 1921 and to shoot films between 1921 and 1945, including The Overcoat (1926), New Babylon (1929), and the Maxim Trilogy (1935-39). He worked as a teacher at the Leningrad Institute of Stage Arts in 1926-32 and as the head of the film department at the Leningrad Theatre Institute in 1926-27. He moved to Moscow to work at Mosfilm in 1943. He wrote a number of scripts and books on cinema history and theory, and was awarded the Stalin Prize in 1941. In 1939-53 in St. Petersburg he lived at 4 Malaya Posadskaya Street (memorial plaque installed) .
