FEDIN Konstantin Alexandrovich (1892-1977), writer, fellow of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1958), hero of Socialist Labour (1967). He studied at Moscow Commercial Institute (1911-14, without receiving a degree). He lived in Petrograd from 1919. He was on the editorial staff of the army newspaper Boevaya Pravda, held the post of a secretary of Department of Press of the Petrograd Soviet, Knigi i Revolutsiya journal, and a correspondent of Petrogradskaya Pravda. He collaborated with various Petrograd (Leningrad) publishing houses and periodicals. Fedin attained literary reputation with his story the Garden, awarded the First Prize at the contest for novice writers held in the House of Writers in 1921. He was a member of the literary group Serapion Brothers. In such works as Cities and Years (1924; the image of Petrograd is added to the general urban gallery of the novel); The Transvaal (1927), Brothers (1928) etc. were written in Petrograd - Leningrad. He lived in Moscow from the end of 1936. His cycle of sketches A Rendezvous with Leningrad (1944) is dedicated to the Leningrad in the course of the Great Patriotic War; the book Gorky among Us (1941-68) contains the memoirs of Fedin of the literary life in Petrograd - Leningrad. He was awarded the Stalin Prize in 1949. He lived at 16 Stremyannaya Street, and at 33 Liteyny Avenue from 1922 (memorial plaque).
