POPKOV Peter Sergeevich (1903-1950), statesman and party worker. In 1917-25 he worked as a joiner in Vladimir. Since 1925, a member of All-Union Communist Party (bolshevist). After graduating from Leningrad municipal engineering institute (1937) he was appointed the chief of science research and development division and secretary of the party committee at the same institute. Since November of 1937 a chairman of Leninsky district executive committee in Leningrad. In 1938-39 the 1st vice-chairman, in 1939-46 chairman of the Executive committee of Leningrad Soviet. Since 1939 candidate member of the Central Committee of All-Union Communist Party (bolshevist). He took part in Leningrad defence in 1941-44; a chairman of Emergency antiepidemic commission; since May of 1943 a member of ascertainment and investigation board of the fascist agressors' crimes in Leningrad and its suburbs. Since March of 1946 the 1st secretary of Leningrad city committee and the regional party committee of All-Union Communist Party (bolshevist). In 1949 he was moved from his post with a severe reprimand and sent to pursue postgraduate studies at the Academy of Social Sciences of the Central Committee of All-Union Communist Party (bolshevist). In August of 1949 he was arrested on the Leningrad Case. In October of 1950 Popkov was executed by shooting. In 1939-50, he lived on 29/37 Kronverkskaya Street (memorial plaque).
