VYAZMITINOV Sergey Kuzmich (1744-1819, St. Petersburg), Count (1818), state and military figure, Infantry General (1798). Entered military service in 1759, participated in the Seven-Year War of 1756-63, in the Russian-Turkish wars of 1768-74 and 1787-91. From 1794, Vyazmitinov was a senator, in 1794-97, he served as Governor General and military governor of a number of provinces, in 1797-99, he was a commandant of St. Peter-and-Paul-Fortress, at the same time in 1797-99 he was a member of the Military Collegium. In 1802-08, Vyazmitinov was a Minister of War; in August-December 1805, he served as commander-in-chief of St. Petersburg Harrison. From 1811, he was a member of the State Council. From March 1812, Vyazmitinov was a member of the Minister Cabinet, commander-in-chief of St. Petersburg Harrison and Supervisor of the Ministry of Police. From September 1812, he headed the Minister Cabinet leaving his other positions; in October 1816 he was also appointed Military Governor of St. Petersburg. From 1812, Vyazmitinov was a member of Councils of the Society of Noble Girls and of the College of the Order of St. Catherine. He was a passionate theatre-lover, dilettante violoncellist, amateur composer, author of the opera entitled New Family (1788). In St. Petersburg he owned the house in Morskaya Street. He was buried in the Lazarevskaya burial-vault of Alexander Nevsky Lavra. His extensive library was transferred to the Imperial Public library after his death.
