MANUKHIN Ivan Ivanovich (1882-1958), doctor and public figure. He graduated from the Military Medical Academy (1906), and became a doctor of medical sciences (1911). After the February revolution of 1917 Manukhin was a physician of the Extraordinary Judicial Committee of the Provisional government, making visits to arrested ministers who were kept in Ss. Peter-and-Paul fortress; after October 1917 - arrested ministers of the Provisional government, figures of opposition, journalists, and political leaders. During the years of the Red Terror he actively participated in the work of the Red Cross, serving as intercessor in prisoner cases, he appealed on behalf of his patients to Bolshevik leaders, persuaded Maxim Gorky to write intercession letters and applications on behalf of others. He served as family physician to many prominent figures of the period. In 1921 he emigrated to France and he was a member of the Pasteur Institute. He wrote numerous papers on immunology and infectious pathology. Manukhin offered a new method of healing the phibrinolytic pneumonia, the so-called leucocyte therapy, in 1910. He used the radiobiological method in the Clinic of Lung Turberculosis in 1913. In St. Petersburg he lived at 83 Sergievskaya Street.
