MILITARY ENGINEERING UNIVERSITY, St. Petersburg Branch of the (SPD MEU) (17 Krasnogo Kursanta Street) is a higher military educational institution. It prepares officers for military topographic services. It originated from the Military Topographic School, which was founded in 1822 as a school of the Topographic Corps, becoming the Topographic School in 1832. From 1867, it has been known by its current name. In the summer of 1917 the School moved to Khvalynsk town, where it voluntarily dissolved itself in January, 1918. In mid-1918, courses of military topography (in 1919 they turned into a college, and in 1937 - a college of higher education) were opened as part of a college in Petrograd. In 1968, the school was reorganised into the Advanced Military Topographic Command College (in 1980, it was named after A.I. Antonov), in 1999 it was turned into the St. Petersburg Department of the Military Engineering University. It was situated in the building of the General Staff, in 1863 it moved to its present-day address. An additional building was constructed in the 1970s (20 Krasnogo Kursanta Street).
