PISAREVA STREET known as Shafirovskaya Street from the mid-19th century and named Alexeevskaya Street after Grand Prince Alexey Alexeevich in 1887-1923 who had a palace at 122 Moika River Embankment. The street runs between Moika River Embankment and Dekabristov Street. It was renamed in memory of D. I. Pisarev. The street appeared in the mid-19th century. The first name originated from Baron P. P. Shafirov's court situated here in the first third of the 18th century. Most of the existing buildings date back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries including the former architect V. A. Schreter's mansion built at number 12 in 1891, former F. G. Kozlyaninov's mansion built by architect A. I. von Gogen at number 12 in 1901-02, former decoration hall of the Board of Imperial Theatres built by architect Schreter at number 20 in 1900, and former George Borman Confectionery built by architect P. P. Pavlov at number 3 in 1912 and now known as Samoylova Confectionery or Krasny Oktyabr.
