BOGDANOV Andrey Ivanovich (the 1690s - 1766, St. Petersburg), first Russian bibliognost, historian of St. Petersburg, linguist. Worked as a master at the Gunpowder Factory in St. Petersburg from the 1710s, and as a printer at the St. Petersburg Printing Office from 1719. Later Bogdanov was a printer at the Academic Printing Office. From 1730, he worked as the librarian's assistant in the Library of the Academy of Sciences. He participated in the establishment of the library's Chamber Catalogue in 1742. In 1755, he compiled A Short Introduction and Historical Research on the Origin and the Formation of All Alphabetical Words, a book in five parts. The fifth chapter was called A Short Catalogue of Books Printed in Russian Printing Companies, and was the first attempt to systematise Russian printing according to the Printing Companies. The work was not published. In 1752, Bogdanov finished A Historical, Geographic and Topographic Description of St. Petersburg from Its Foundation, from 1703 to 1751, the first ever work about the history of St. Petersburg. The work was published in 1779. In 1762, Bogdanov finished an appendix to the book. This work was also not published. Bogdanov was buried in St. Petersburg. The grave is unknown.
