Manassein V. A., (1841-1901), physician

MANASSEIN Vyacheslav Avxentievich (1841-1901, St. Petersburg), general physician, Doctor of Medicine (1869). He graduated from the Medical Surgical Academy (1866). In 1876-92, he was professor of clinical pathology and therapy of internal diseases at the Medical Surgical Academy (Military Medical Academy). He was a founder and editor of the weekly newspaper Doctor (1880-1901). Manassein was the founder of the Foundation for Financial Assistance to Students and Doctors (Auxiliary Cash Desk, Manassein's Rouble). A memorial plaque has been installed on the house where Manassein lived (42 Komsomola Street). He was buried in Uspenskoe Cemetery (now Severnoe Cemetery in Pargolovo).
