APPLIED CHEMISTRY, the State Scientific Centre of the Russian Federation (the Federal State Unitary Factory, the Russian Scientific Centre for Applied Chemistry), at 14 Dobrolyubova Avenue, is the biggest chemical organisation in Russia. Established in 1919 on base of the Laboratory and the Experimental Factory of the Military Chemical Committee of the Russian Physics and Chemistry Society as the Russian Institute of Applied Chemistry, its founding members included academicians N. S. Kurnakov, V. N. Ipatyev, A. E. Favorsky, A. E. Poray-Koshits, V. E. Tishchenko; and professors L. A. Chugaev and A. I. Gorbov. It received the name the State Institute of Applied Chemistry in 1924. In 1982, the Scientific-Industrial Union was established on basis of the institute. The union was transformed into the Russian Scientific Centre for Applied Chemistry in 1992. The Russian Scientific Centre for Applied Chemistry consists of the Scientific Research Institute, the Planning Institute, the Experimental Factory, and the Permian Branch. The centre helped establish new technological processes for various parts of the chemical industry, including power engineering, naval transportation, aviation, microelectronics, and cosmic, atomic and oil and gas composites, as well as the design and development of machines and apparatuses for domestic rocket and space technology. The scientific centre develops processes and engineering systems to help rid of waste products, protecting the Russian population and environment.
