KHRENOV Alexander Sergeevich (1860, St. Petersburg - 1926), architect and aquarellist. Graduated from St. Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts (1884). In 1888, assumed the position of architect of St. Isaac's Cathedral, held a lecturing position at the school for drawing of the Society for the Encouragement for the Arts. Member of the Russian aquarellist society. In St. Petersburg built and rebuilt over 30 constructions. The design of the building of the Mutual Credit Society (8 Italyanskaya Street, 1893-94), the apartment houses at 9 and 27 Kirochnaya Street (1898), 47/11 Furshtatskaya Street (1900), 140 Nevsky Prospect (1901-02) follow the patterns of Eclecticism. Later Khrenov turned to Art Nouveau. The apartment houses at 17 (1901-02) and 5 (1908-09) Tavricheskaya Street, 18/17 Vosstaniya Street (1902-03), 4 Rubinsteina Street (1904) and 10b Second Sovetskaya Street (1904-05) are remarkable for massive bay windows, polychromic revetment, application of decorative metal and stained-glass windows, original round-shaped wells. The symmetrical houses of M.V. Vyazemskaya (4 and 6 Moskovsky Avenue, 1910-11) were erected as propylaes at the beginning of the new passage (not completed). Among constructions, dominated by Neoclassical forms is the palace of Grand Prince Nikolay Nikolaevich the Younger (2 Petrovskaya Embankment, 1910-13). Khrenov built a number of apartment houses, belonging to him, including houses Nos.3, 5, 7 and 17 Tavricheskaya Street, which played an important role in its development. Two houses, built by Khrenov, have memorial plaques, indicating the dates of construction and the name of the architects (Vosstaniya Street, 18/7 and Rubinsteina Street, 4). In the 1920s, he lived and worked in China.
