BOSSE Garald Andreevich (Garald Ernestovich, Garald Yulius) (1812-1894), architect and graphic artist. Born into Baltic Germans' family, studied in Darmschtadt. Since 1831, resided in St. Petersburg, working as a draftsman in the studio of A. P. Bryullov. In 1832, he was conferred the title of free artist of the Academy of Fine Arts. He was a member of the academy (from 1839), professor (from 1854), at the Academy of Fine Arts. He worked at the Department of Projects and Estimates of the Main Administration for Railroads and Public Buildings; was a member of the Technical Committee of Main Engineering administration and served on a number of commissions. Since 1858, he served as an architect at the imperial court. He is the designer of a large number of palaces, mansions, suburban residences and religious architecture projects, where he skilfully combined the elements of different architectural styles and epochs (Renaissance, Baroque, etc.): the mansion of E. P. Pashkov (10 Kutuzova Embankment ; 1843), Pashkov's house (Department of Lots, 1841-44), the reconstruction of the apartment house of S.O. Kitner (7 St. Isaac Square; 1847-48), the house of Kochubey (1853-57), the house of E. M. Buturlina (10 Tchaikovskogo Street; 1857-60), the German Reformed Church (103 Moika River Embankment, in cooperation with D. I. Grimm, 1862-65; subsequently rebuilt), ensembles of Mikhailovka and Znamenka estates on the Peterhof Highway. In 1860, he designed the building for the permanent plant exhibition before Alexandrinsky Theatre, using the newest construction methods and materials. In 1863, he retired due to illness; during his last years he lived and worked in Dresden. In St. Petersburg, he resided in his private house at 15 Fourth Line of Vasilievsky Island, (1847-49, built according to his own project).
