Alexandrovskaya (Pushkinsky District)

Categories / City Topography/Historical Geography/Vacation Houses, Spas and Resorts

ALEXANDROVSKAYA, municipal unit within the structure of Pushkinsky District of St. Petersburg, located on the banks of the Kuzminka River. The settlement also comprises a railway station of the same name. The site of Alexandrovskaya is crossed by Volkhonskoe Freeway, which links Kievskoe Freeway and the town of Pushkin. The population approximates 3,200 persons as of 2001. The name of the settlement derives from a former village, which appeared, according to some versions, in the late 18th century as the settlement of workers, engaged for the building of Alexandrovsky Park and Alexandrovsky Palace, situated nearby. The original name of the settlement was Alexandrovka. After the railroad to Gatchina was built in 1853, the settlement was turned into a summer resort. Present-day Alexandrovskaya is built up with detached houses, with cottages built in the western part of the settlement from the late 1990s.
