URITSK, a former separate town within the Leningrad Region. Founded in 1925, and named after М. S. Uritsky, the town stretched along the territory of the present-day Krasnoselsky District, west of Ligovo, including part of the Ligovo settlement and the villages of Egorovka and Ivanovskaya. Its main street ran along the axis of the current Partizana Germana Street. In September 1941, fierce battles broke out around Uritsk. The Kirovsky Val memorial is part of the Green Belt of Glory erected in commemoration of the events, and including the Lane of Glory, with 900 birches; the events were also commemorated by street names such as Avangardnaya Street, Otvazhnykh (Courageous) Street, Dobrovoltsev (Volunteers') Street. In 1950, Uritsk, along with the settlements of Ligovo and Staropanovo, passed under the jurisdiction of the Leningrad Kirovsky District Soviet (council), in 1963 was incorporated within Leningrad boundaries as a part of Kirovsky District and since 1973 has belonged to the Krasnoselsky District. The territory was built up with typical first residential housing in the late 1960s - early 1970s. Low-rise buildings around the Ligovo Railway Station are a testament to the town's past.
