KOMAROVO (until 1948 Kellomaki), the former settlement (since 1946), a municipal unit forming a part of Kurortny District of St. Petersburg (since 1997), 40 km to the north-west of the city, in the resort zone on the north coast of the Gulf of Finland, also a railway station. It was renamed after V.L. Komarov. After the railway road St. Petersburg - Vyborg was built in 1870, Komarovo turned into a dacha area. In 1918-40, the territory belonged to Finland. The population is about 1,100 people. (2001). There is a holiday hotel of Russian Academy of Sciences, the House of Theatre Workers' Creativity, Komarovo Holiday Centre, Children’s Psychoneurological Health Centre, etc. Shchuchye (Pike) Lake is located 2 km to the north of Komarovo. Many outstanding scientists and cultural workers have been buried at Komarovskoe Cemetery.
