OBUKHOVO, a landmark in southwest of Saint Petersburg, between Sofiyskaya Street, Alexandrovskoy Fermy Avenue, the Moskovskaya railway line and the Yuzhnoe railway semi-circle. The name, as well as the cognominal railway station, comes from the Obukhovsky Plant, located 1,5 kilometres to the northwest. Until the 1930s, it was also known as the Novo-Alexandrovskaya Sloboda (settlement). In the 1960-80s, the territory was built up with non-residential facilities. It accommodates the Obukhovsky Construction Material Plant, the Elevatormelmash Plant, the Electrotechnic Scientific and Production Enterprise, and numerous transport and storage facilities. The Memorial Cemetery for the Victims of 9 January (the former Preobrazhenskoe Cemetery, opened in 1872) and the Jewish Cemetery are situated in the northern part of Obukhovo.
