TROITSKOE FIELD, an area to the south-east of St. Petersburg, on the left bank of the Neva River, between Obukhovskoy Oborony Avenue, Zaporozhskaya Street, Gribakinykh Street and Babushkina Street. A part of Alexandrovskoe. It was named after the Holy Trinity Church (Russian "svyatoy troitsy") (see The Easter Cake) located nearby (235 Obukhovskoy Oborony Avenue). Up to the beginning of the 20th century, the territory remained an extensive neglected ground. In 1927-34, a housing estate of the same name was constructed in the north part of Troitskoe field. In 1936-41, the southern development was launched. In the early 1960s, the area between 2nd Rabfakovsky Lane and 3rd Rabfakovsky Lane was built up with the first standard block of flats of panel construction. In the course of construction works, the 18th century Orthodox cemetery was destroyed.
