GORELOVO, an area in the south-west of St. Petersburg, along Tallinskoe Freeway, to the north of Krasnoe Selo. It was named after a village of the same name. In the 19th - early 20th centuries, there was an artillery exercise ground for Krasnoe Selo Military Camp. The construction of a railway line to Krasnoe Selo in 1859 turned this region into a popular country place. In 1961, Gorelovo became an urban village, in 1973 it was included within city boundaries of Leningrad. Detached houses and dachas of local gardening associations predominate. On the territory of Gorelovo an Air Defence College and All-Russian Transportation Equipment Scientific Research Institute are located.
