Categories / City Topography/Green Areas/Parks

AVIATORS' PARK is situated in the southern part of St. Petersburg, between Novo-Izmailovsky Avenue and Basseynaya, Kubinskaya, and Kuznetsovskaya Streets, occupying as total 35.2 hectares. It was constructed in 1966-70, on the territory of the former Corps Aerodrome (hence the name). It has an intricate planning of paths and a pond of unique form in the centre. The water comes from a branch of Ligovsky Canal. A monument for military aviators was placed on the bank of the pond in 1968: MIG-19 fighter is placed on a concrete plinth (the monument's height is 12 metres; architect A.S. Chervyakova and S.A. Ushakov, engineer A.I. Rybin). The park is planted with hardwoods.
