KRASNY CANAL (Red Canal) was built between the Moika River and the Bolshaya Neva River in 1711 to drain the territory. It passed approximately along the western part of the Field of Mars. The canal was named after neighbouring Krasny Bridge over the Moika River (today, Theatre Bridge). It had a small reservoir in the area of today's Millionnaya Street. The Krasny Canal was filled up in 1770s.
