The Life-Guards Keksgolm Regiment is one of the oldest regiments of the Russian Army. Only three regiments of the Foot Guards were established by Peter the Great – Preobrazhensky, Semenovsky and Keksgolm Regiments. All of them were called Peter’s Regiments. The Regiment was established in 1710. The Regiment took part in many battles. Personnel of the Keksgolm Regiment demonstrated courage and bravery during the Northern War. The Regiment distinguished itself during the Russo-Swedish War of 1808-1809. Two battalions of the Regiment negated the attacks of the French cavalry in the Battle of Borodino. The Regiment took part in the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878 and crossed the Balkan Mountains in severe winter conditions. It also took part in the actions during the First World War of 1914 - 1918.
