ESSAYS OF LENINGRAD HISTORY, a scientific publication carried out by the Leningrad Department of the Institute of History of the USSR of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in 1955-89 (volumes 1-7). It deals with the main stages of economic, social-political and cultural life of St. Petersburg - Leningrad (the material is arranged in chronological order according to the periodization accepted in the Soviet historiography). S. P. Luppov, V. V. Mavrodin, V. V. Pilyavsky, A. V. Predtechensky, A. I. Gegello, I. A. Bartenev are among the authors. Volume 1 - The Period of Feudalism - covers the period from the foundation of the city up to 1861, volume 2 - The Period of Capitalism - is devoted to the history of the city in the second half of the 19th century, volume 3 - The Period of Imperialism and Bourgeois-Democratic Revolutions of 1895-1917, volume 4 - The Period of Great October Socialist Revolution and Building of Socialism in the USSR. Years 1917-1941, volume 5 - The Period of the Great Patriotic War of the USSR. Years 1941-1945, volume 6 - Leningrad in the Period of the End of Building Socialism and Gradual Transition to Communism. Years 1945-1965", volume 7 covers the period of 1966-80. In spite of tendentiousness and politicalization, essays contain valuable material about the history of St. Petersburg. M. G. Khugayeva.
