SEWAGE WATER TREATMENT. There are five enterprises within the St. Petersburg Vodokanal dealing with sewage disposal (the North and South Drainage systems, and the Southwestern, Sestroretsk and Kolpino Vodokanal companies). The sewage disposal plants' projects were worked out in the late 1980s. St. Petersburg's water disposal system, along with that of its suburbs, includes tunnel wastelines (196.4 km), a drainage system (7485.4 km), sewage disposal plants (20) and drainage pump stations (116). In 2001, Vodokanal SPb managed 53 domestic networks, 122 combined sewerage networks and 1023 rain-water systems. The process of sewage water treatment includes primary and biological treatment of wastewater.
