UNIVERSITY OF CINEMA AND TELEVISION, St. Petersburg State, located at 13 Pravdy Street, was established in 1918 as the Higher Institute of Photography and Photo Technology. It became the School of Photography in 1924. It was transformed into the Institute of Motion-Picture Engineers in 1930. The institute was renamed the St. Petersburg Institute of Cinema and Television in 1992. The institute received its present name in 1999. Outstanding workers of art and science taught at the institute: V. D. Zamiraylo, P. I. Lukirsky, D. I. Mitrokhin, A. P. Ostroumova-Lebedeva and A. F. Shorin among others. In 2002, the University of Cinema and Television consisted of the following faculties: the Faculty of Audiovisual Technology; the Faculty of Cinema and Television Systems and Instruments; the Faculty of Photography and Recording Materials’ Technology; the Faculty of Economics; the Faculty of Screen Arts; the Faculty for Upskilling. Courses for creative professions, and the Centre for Retraining Specialists and Business Co-operation function at the university. The University of Cinema and Television has branches in Moscow, Sovetsk (Kaliningrad Region) and Yakutsk.
