EZHEMESYACHNYE SOCHINENIYA, k polze i uveseleniyu sluzhashchie, (Monthly Entertainment for benefit and amusement) Russia's first monthly popular scientific and literary journal, published by the Petersburg Academy of Sciences in 1755-64, and printed in the Academy's printing house. It's circulation was about 2,000 copies. In 1758-62 it was known as the Sochineniya i Perevody k Polze I Uveseleniyu Sluzhashchie, from 1763 - Ezhemesyachnye Sochineniya i Izvestia o Uchenykh Delakh. Academy member G. F. Miller was the journal's editor. The journal published original and translated works. F. I. Soymonov, Prince М. М. Shcherbatov, P. I. Rychkov contributed to the scientific section. М. М. Kheraskov, А. А. Nartov, А. А. Rzhevsky wrote for the literary section. In 1755 the Ezhemesyachnye sochineniya mirrored the polemic of the epoch's major poets - М. V. Lomonosov, А. P. Sumarokov and V. K. Trediakovsky. In 1786-96 the Academy of Sciences published the journal Novye ezhemesyachnye sochineniya (New Monthly Essays), succeeding the Ezhemesyachnye sochineniya.
