Finlyandsky Railway Bridge

FINLYANDSKY RAILWAY BRIDGE, across the Neva River, on Finlyandskaya junction railway line. The bridge was built in 1910-13 (engineers N.A. Belelyubsky, G.G. Krivoshein, I.G. Alexandrov, architect V.P. Apyshkov). The bridge consists of two lanes; the channel is bridged over with four identical spans shaped as tied arches, with the double-leaf swing bascule span in the middle. On the left bank, a reinforced concrete frame trestle, about 610 metres long was set (by Christiani company, Denmark; the trestle runs over Obukhovskoy Oborony Avenue); on the right bank there is a metal viaduct (beyond Oktyabrskaya Embankment). The total length of the bridge including approaches is approximately 1,130 metres. In 1983-87, a new bridge was built downstream (engineers O.Y. Rusin, N.D. Shipov), its spans reproducing the contours of the archs of the previous bridge. The navigation channel opens from only one wing.
