RUBIN, Central Design Office for Naval Equipment of the Russian Shipbuilding Agency, located at 90 Marata Street, was established in 1900-02 by professional naval architect I. G. Bubnov. It was included in the structure of the Baltic Shipbuilding Factory under various names until 1935. It became an independent organization in 1937, as the Central Design Office-18. Approximately 920 submarines of various classes and with various functions were built according to the projects of the bureau in 1901-2001, including heavy nuclear-powered cruisers (APK) of the Typhoon class. In 2001, a unique retrieval device was developed for raising the Kursk submarine under the technical and organizational supervision of Rubin and its director academician I. D. Spassky. Rubin also conducts research for the gas-and-oil industry and also for overland transportation etc.
