BALTIYSKY RAILWAY STATION (120 Obvodny Canal Embankment). The station was built in 1853 after a railway between St. Petersburg and Peterhof was completed, and was originally called Peterhofsky Railway Station. Architect A.I. Krakau constructed the building in 1855-57. It has two-storied side wings with perches. The wing to the left of the square held an apartment for the Emperor and was isolated from the other parts of the terminal. In the centre of the Renaissance style facade there is a semicircular stained-glass window of the platform flanked by two turrets. Pavel Bure street clock, which survived to this day, was installed in the stained glass window. The train operation was opened on 21 July 1857. In 1872, the first passenger train from Ravel arrived to Peterhof Railway Station. The railway station got its present-day name after the opening of regular traffic. On 24 October (6 November) 1917 Baltiysky Railway Station was taken by soldiers of Izmailovsky Regiment and was put at disposal of Petrograd Military Revolutionary Committee. In 1931-32 Baltiysky Railway Station was reconstructed. The tracks were removed from under the dome of the terminal, side entrances were closed and a new central entrance was made in the place of three-arch windows. Electric commuter train traffic opened in 1993. Baltiysky Railway Station serves destinations in southwest Russia. An entrance hall to Baltiyskaya metro station was added to the left wing of the railway station in 1955.
