MOSCOW LIFE GUARDS REGIMENT, infantry guards regiment, formed in 1811 out of the 1st Life Guards Battalion of Preobrazhensky Regiment as the Life-Guards Litovsky (Lithuanian) Regiment, in 1817 named the Moscow (Moskovsky) Life-guards Regiment, the 3rd Battalion had been transferred to Warsaw, and the new Life-Guards Litovsky (Lithuanian) Regiment was formed on its basis. It participated in the wars with France (1812-14) and Turkey (1828-29, 1877-78), in suppressing the Polish insurrection 1830-31, and in WW I of 1914-18. Two of the regiment's companies took part in the Decembrist Revolt on 14 December 1825, after its suppression were dispatched to the Caucasus, its soldiers distinguished themselves in the Russo-Persian War of 1827-28. In 1817-90 the regiment was stationed in the barracks of the local corps (90 Fontanka River Embankment), afterwards in specially built barracks (63-65 Bolshoy Sampsonievsky Avenue). The regiment's chapel was Archangel Michael Cathedral Church, (61 Bolshoy Sampsonievsky Avenue; 1905-06, architect A.G. Uspensky). In the early 1918 the regiment was disbanded.
