NIKOLAEVSKY ENGINEERING ACADEMY is higher military educational institution. It was created in 1855, from the Imperial Military Academy, which had run officers' classes for the Major Engineering High School. From 1863, it had been an independent higher educational institution. Officers of all ranks up to staff-captain were admitted to the Nikolaevsky Engineering Academy. Training time consisted of two to three years. After graduating from the second class, one received advantages in promotion to the next rank, after the third class - the rank of military engineer and the right to serve as an engineer. In 1918, the Nikolaevsky Engineering Academy was transformed into a high school, which trained officers of engineer troops. In 1923, it was merged with the Electromechanical school and in 1925 it was merged with the Artillery Academies, forming the Military Technical Academy. In 1932, it moved to Moscow and dissolved. It was situated in the Engineer's Castle (see the Mikhailovsky Castle).
