                                                                       FORESTRY ENGINEERING ACADEMY, Kirov St. Petersburg State Forestry Engineering Academy, situated at 5 Institutsky Avenue. It was founded in Tsarskoe Selo in 1803 as the Real Forestry School reorganised into the Forestry Institute in St. Petersburg in 1811, which was arranged similar to cadet corps in 1837-63. It received the status of a higher education institution in 1848 and was renamed the Forestry Academy in 1862, Agricultural Institute in 1865, Forestry Institute in 1877, and Forestry Engineering Academy in 1929, and named after S. M. Kirov in 1935, a name it retained until 1991. Among its teachers and researchers were S. A. Bogoslovsky, I. P. Borodin, S. I. Vanin, A. M. Goldberg, G. G. Doppelmeier, L. A. Ivanov, D. N. Kaygorodov, A. A. Liverovsky, M. N. Rimsky-Korsakov, N. I. Nikitin, P. A. Kostychev, D. A. Lachinov, G. F. Morozov, M. M. Orlov, N. N. Pavlovsky, A. F. Rudzky, V. N. Sukachev, D. V. Tishchenko, N. A. Kholodkovsky, V. I. Sharkov, M. E. Tkachenko, A. N. Engelgardt, et al. The academy had the following departments in 2002: preentry training, forestry, forestry engineering, and timber tooling technology, timber mechanics, chemical engineering, economics and management, and advanced training. The academy has a large park founded in 1827, arboretum, botanical garden, museum, test facilities, as well as the International Centre of Forestry and Timber Industry, St. Petersburg's regional branch of the European Forest Institute, Department of Forest and Timber Technology of the World Technological University, and Educolog, the Inter University Educational Development Centre. The academy today is the leading research and training development centre of the higher forestry engineering institutions of the country.
