Youth for the Renascence of St. Petersburg, Social Movement

YOUTH FOR THE RENASCENCE OF ST. PETERSBURG, cultural patriotic youth social movement. The movement appeared in 1990 on the initiative of teachers of the Palace of Creative Youth and the city's regional ethnographers. The chairman of the coordinating board of the Movement is V.I. Axelrod. The movement's major objectives include the introduction of young citizens to historical and cultural legacy of St. Petersburg, and study of the city's history. The movement works under the motto "To Behold, Save and Preserve", its programs are carried out in 15 permanent and over 30 temporary club locations, as well as at a number of schools. The movement's activities include city readings in regional studies held among schoolchildren, its members participate in archaeological trips, volunteer Sunday work for the improvement of cultural sites of the city and its region. The movement is a member society of the Worldwide Club of St. Petersburgers.
