KRASNY (RED) BRIDGE (until 1808 Bely – white, on account of its colour), over the Moika River, on Gorokhovaya Street. There are records of a wooden bridge in the city plan of 1717. In 1737, there existed a timber bridge with a navigation channel. In 1808-11 and 1813-14, it was replaced with a cast-iron bridge (architect V.I. Hastie) with a segmental lining fixed-vault. The rough-hewn stone piers are faced with granite. In 1953-54, the iron-cast vault was replaced with a welded metal arched double-hinge span-framed structure (engineer V.V. Blazhevich), the original architectural appearance was restored and including the granite obelisks with lanterns (architect А.L. Rotach) and the side walk railings. In 1998, the cast-iron and granite railing was restored, the lanterns repaired. Length: 42 metres, width: 16.8 metres.
