LAW SCHOOL, the Imperial Law School, a privileged private higher education institution for the nobility. It was founded in 1835, and financed by Prince P. G. Oldenburgsky. The course of studies was six to seven years; junior classes taught a gymnasium curriculum and senior classes a special education program. Among teachers were A. F. Koni, V. D. Spasovich, and N. S. Tagantsev, among graduates - I. S. Aksakov, A. N. Apukhtin, K. K. Arsenyev, A. M. Zhemchuzhnikov, D. N. Nabokov, K. P. Pobedonostsev, A. N. Serov, V. V. and D. V. Stasov, P. I. Tchaikovsky, and V. P. Engelgardt. It was situated at 6 Fontanka River Embankment, the buildings specially reconstructed by architect A. I. Melnikov in 1835. The interiors were rebuilt by architect V. P. Stasov in 1836 and 1840. The exterior was significantly changed by architect P. Y. Suzor in 1893-95 and 1909-10 including a new entrance, domes over the central part. It was closed in 1917.
