June. The headquarters of the virgin lands workers was organized at the Leningrad Agricultural Institute; the headquarters began to form the student units for the work on the virgin lands in Kazakhstan. In 1956 the 1,300- student-unit worked on the harvest of wheat in the Pavlodar Region. V.Shkrabak (the future principal of the Institute during 1994-2003, doctor of sciences), A.Pavlyukov, S. Konshin, L. Sulima were distingiushed student-combine operators.

1 September. The first music school, after the war, was opened in 46 October Boulevard; in 1958 the school was transferred into the premises of the Catherine Palace and in 1970 it was transferred into the building of the former Mariinskaya Gymnasium in 17 Leontyevskaya Street. Konshin, S.
