GAUKHMAN-SVERDLOV Marxen Yakovlevich (1929, Leningrad - 1997, St. Petersburg), art director. He graduated from the Repin Institute of Art, Sculpture, and Architecture in 1954. Worked at Lenfilm Studio from 1958, he was a designer for about 30 films. He worked a lot with director G. A. Panfilov including in No Crossing Under Fire of 1968, Beginning of 1970, I Want the Floor of 1976, Theme of 1979, and Valentine of 1980. The theme of St. Petersburg appeared in Living Corpse in 1968, Boys in 1969, and Nose in 1978. Two works - Life of Joan of Arc and Pushkin - that were of fundamental importance for the designer remained unfinished. Gaukhman-Sverdlov was an adherent to the "severe" style of art. He poetised a simple thing combining veracity with expressive and psychological representation. His last address in St. Petersburg was at 6 Kamennoostrovsky Avenue.
