VENGEROV Vladimir Yakovlevich (1920-1997, St. Petersburg), film director, People's Artist of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic in 1976. He graduated from the All-Russian State Institute of Cinematography as a qualified director in 1943 and worked at Lenfilm Studio from 1944. He worked as a teacher at Leningrad Theatre Institute in 1946-49. Among his films were Dirk shot together with M. A. Schweitzer in 1954; Two Captains shot in 1956 and awarded a prize at the First International Children's Film Festival in Belgrade; City Turns the Lights On in 1958; Trip Without a Load shot in 1962 and awarded a silver prize at the Third International Film Festival in Moscow; Workers' Settlement in 1965; Living Corpse in 1968; and Precipice in 1983. St. Petersburg appeared in his Baltic Sky in 1961. Vengerov's films are actor-oriented and associated with the tradition of national literature. He last lived at 7 Sestroretskaya Street. Buried at Komarovskoe Cemetery.
