CHIRKOV Boris Petrovich (1901-1982), film and theatre actor, author of books and articles, People’s Artist of the USSR (1950) and Hero of Socialist Labour (1975). After graduating from the Leningrad Institute of Stage Arts in 1926 he worked at the Leningrad Youth Theatre and the New Youth Theatre. Becoming involved in cinema in 1918, he played close to 40 roles, attaining fame for the role of Maxim, a revolutionary worker from St. Petersburg, in the Maxim Trilogy, which included The Youth of Maxim, The Return of Maxim, and Vyborgskaya Side (New Horizons), directed by G. M. Kozintsev and L. Z. Trauberg in 1935-39. He also worked at Lenfilm, playing in the Brothers Vasilyev's Chapaev (1934), L. O. Arnstam's Friends (Three Women) (1936), S. I. Yutkevich's Man with the Gun (1938), and A. S. Gerasimov's Teacher (1939). He moved to Moscow in 1945. He was awarded the Stalin Prize in 1941, 1947, 1949, and 1952.
