IVANOV Ivan Alexeevich (1779 - 1848, St. Petersburg), watercolourist and engraver. Nephew of I.E. Starov. Studied at the Academy of Arts (1789-98), where he taught (in 1817-40) and of which he became a member (1830). Portraying the sights of St. Petersburg, he favoured engraving technique (View of Sennaya Square, View of Tsaritsyn Meadow from the Upper Garden, both done in 1814; The View of Nevsky Monastery, View of the Neva on the Day of Midpentecost, both created in 1815) and watercolours (The Consecration of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Kazan in Petersburg in 1811, at the State Russian Museum; The Celebrations of 19th March, 1816 in Saint Petersburg, now in the All-Russian Museum of Alexander Pushkin, town of Pushkin). Drew illustrations and book design for I.A. Krylov's Fables (1815, 1825), K.N. Batyushkov's Experiments in Verse and Prose (1817), Alexander Pushkin's Ruslan and Ludmila (1820), and the anthologies Pole Star (1824) and Northern Flowers (1826). Created logos and patches for the uniforms of various departments (1840s), as well as models of wares for the Glass Plant (1806-16) and the Imperial Porcelain Plant (1830-42).
